Studio vs. One-Room Apartment: What's the Difference?

A one-room flat (German: 1-Zimmer-Wohnung or Einzimmerwohnung) has one room for living and sleeping, plus its own bathroom and a kitchen or kitchenette. In German listings, the kitchen, bathroom and hallway are not counted as rooms. Most one-room flats are between 20 and 40 square metres.

Landlords often advertise these flats as Studio or Apartment. In practice, all three terms usually describe the same type of home.

Compared with a larger flat, you pay less rent in total, but often more per square metre. In return, you have the kitchen and bathroom to yourself. Rents in German listings are usually given as Kaltmiete, which excludes heating and utilities. The Warmmiete includes these costs.

Many one-room flats are rented out furnished or as a sublet, for example during a semester abroad or a project in another city. If you only need a place for a few months, also take a look at sublets and furnished apartments.

On 91辦畦, both private landlords and commercial providers list one-room flats. You contact them directly through the platform.
